Presidente Claudia Sheinbaum defended Mexico’s sovereignty and independence during her visit to Nuevo León, where she presented the progress of her Second Government Report. The leader addressed thousands gathered on the Explanada de los Héroes in Monterrey, emphasizing that while the country maintains global relations, it does not sacrifice its autonomous decision-making capacity. This engagement serves as a continuation of her national tour following the formal presentation of her administration’s official report, where she was joined by members of her cabinet and the state’s governor, Samuel García Sepúlveda.
Defending national values
Mexico maintains relations with nations around the world, but the president insisted the country will not renounce its right to make its own decisions. Sheinbaum used national history to frame these principles, noting that her administration aims to preserve them in all international dealings. Her stance comes as a response to recent criticisms regarding proposed electoral reforms, specifically regarding restrictions on dual nationals, which have sparked debate within diplomatic circles.
“The people of Mexico, its heroes, its heroines, have always fought for freedom, for sovereignty, for independence, and that is something we must never forget because Mexico relates to all the nations of the world,” she said.
The administration prioritizes keeping Mexico as a sovereign, free, and independent state, a stance that reflects the lessons of the nation’s history. By referencing historical struggles, Sheinbaum seeks to anchor current political decisions in a legacy of resistance against external influence, ensuring that future policies remain true to the foundational values of the nation.
Sheinbaum also highlighted the role of Mexican workers in the national and North American economy. Speaking to the crowd, she argued that the workforce supports the country’s economic stability and contributes significantly to the United States. This recognition of labor’s contribution is intended to bolster national pride while acknowledging the deep economic interdependence between the two neighboring countries.

“Mexico is wonderful, from south to north. But we have something unique, and that is the Mexican working people. There is no more hardworking people than the people of Mexico, who sustain the economy of Mexico and a part of the economy of the United States,” Sheinbaum affirmed.
Investments in Nuevo León
After addressing sovereignty, Sheinbaum outlined federal projects and resources allocated to Nuevo León. Around 1.5 million people in the state benefit from federal programs, with an investment of over 32 billion pesos. This financial commitment shows the federal government’s focus on equitable development across all Mexican states, targeting infrastructure and social welfare as key pillars of growth.
The administration is constructing five new high schools and expanding the Viviendas del Bienestar program for workers. That housing initiative is currently 14 percent complete in the state. The construction of educational facilities aims to improve access to quality secondary education, while the housing project seeks to provide dignified living conditions for workers across the region.
Sheinbaum also announced improvements to metropolitan mobility. In the health sector, the new General Regional Hospital of the IMSS in Santa Catarina is 22 percent finished. The government is also adding a new Family Medicine Unit in Juárez and expanding the clinic-hospital of the ISSSTE in Monterrey. These healthcare initiatives are designed to alleviate the burden on existing medical infrastructure and improve access to specialized care for residents.
