A Cork-based energy firm is expanding with plans to create up to 150 new jobs over the next two years while doubling its annual turnover to €100 million by 2030. SE Systems announced the growth strategy during the official opening of its new €3 million headquarters in Dublin Hill, Cork, a facility that will serve as the base for its national expansion.
New headquarters and national growth
The 15,000 sq ft A-rated building reflects the company’s focus on energy efficiency, solar, and retrofit solutions for homeowners, businesses, and public sector organizations. The expansion also includes plans to grow its Dublin office and establish regional hubs in Clare, Donegal, and Louth, alongside strategic partnerships nationwide.
Since its founding in 2010, SE Systems has retrofitted nearly 15,000 homes and 2,000 commercial buildings, working with clients like Tesco, ESB Smart Energy Services, Stryker, and Johnson & Johnson. The company currently employs 112 staff and relies on a network of 300 specialist subcontractors to deliver its services.
EU Commissioner Michael McGrath, who attended the opening, stated that the expansion is a prime example of a home-grown business thriving in the renewable and green economy. He noted that such growth supports job creation and aligns with Ireland’s decarbonization goals.
For homeowners and businesses, SE Systems acts as a one-stop shop for energy efficiency upgrades, including grant applications for solar and heat pump installations. Over the past 16 years, the company has helped clients access nearly €1 billion in energy-saving grants, processing around €100 million annually in commercial and community funding. Its projects have saved over 1.6 billion kWh of energy and reduced emissions by 358,000 tonnes of CO2 since 2010.
Workforce expansion and training initiatives
The 150 new roles will span disciplines including engineering, project management, energy services, software development, and business development. The company plans to recruit both experienced professionals and entry-level candidates, with a focus on apprenticeships, graduate programs, and upskilling partnerships with educational institutions.
CEO John O’Leary emphasized that the expansion reflects Ireland’s rising demand for energy efficiency solutions. The company aims to support this growth through digital platforms and energy monitoring technologies.
Managing Director Youenn Lowry added that workforce development is central to the company’s strategy. Initiatives will include apprenticeships, professional training, and collaboration with third-level colleges to create career pathways in engineering and energy management.
A focus on grants and administrative support
SE Systems simplifies access to energy efficiency grants by handling applications on behalf of clients, reducing bureaucratic hurdles. This service has proven critical for many, as grant funding often requires complex paperwork and technical compliance. The company processes applications for solar panel installations, heat pumps, and insulation upgrades, ensuring clients meet eligibility criteria while maximizing savings.
